The birthday girl turns another year older today, and to celebrate this momentous occasion, we're heading to the circus for the greatest show on Earth! Elephants! Clowns! A daring young lass on the flying trapeze! Don't forget the freak show-- and more! We'll also be partaking in some of the finest cuisine this side of the midway, which (as you will see) leads to the ominously twisty side of this gloriously cute 1940's Grinnell birthday card. Yes, always remember to overdo it on the fun-- not the food, folks! HAPPY CIRCUS BIRTHDAY!!!
Absolutely beautiful and fun card! I love this post Mr.Karswell! Thank you for posting this! It's super and you know it's special to me!
Happy birthday, Slayla <3
So weird and funny. My favorite thing about the post has to be Butch in his cage back there on the hotdog page. But my favorite full illo is the fish-stealing episode. I love how all three discrete levels of the drawing stack up, from sauntering puppy back to the colorfully abstract crowd. So well done.
Every Birthday is Happy at the circus!
The hot dog page is the clear cut winner for me as well.
And speaking of hot dogs, RIP Rachel Nagy of the Detroit Cobras…
god what a tragedy :(
RIP Rachel Nagy of the Detroit Cobras
Yeah, man. This seventeen-day-old year has already been pretty brutal.
So the entire card tells you to overeat and insult circus personal. Happy Birthday!
That's one lovingly rendered elephant butt, BTW.
