Superb illustrations by Mel Crawford, and a fun story penned by Eileen Daly, highlight this wonderful Tell-A-Tales Book from 1963 featuring the silliest character to ever crawl out of a swamp-- Wally Gator! Wally was one of many entertaining segments on The Hanna-Barbera New Cartoon Series which premiered in 1962, and was voiced by the great Daws Butler. Yay! I like the one even better than the last one. I always did like funny lizard characters--Wally here, Albert from Pogo, those caped guys dancing with the hippos in Fantasia, etc.--somehow that kind of design has always just struck me as totally debonaire. Aside from that I think that page with the bear hidden in the haystack is my fave, though mostly because that truck is so very excellent. It cracks me up that the zoo keeper looks like a cartoon Hitler.
Thanks!
I like the ghosted image of Wally at the Ice Cream Popcorn stand-- I'll take a large Choc-O-Late please!
I have lots more of these books (including a Flintstones adv) but I think I'll hold off and post it later this summer :)
this is great! i love that little kid - he's really cute! esp when he's jumping up at the ice cream stand. and both pics of the popcorn/ice cream stand are my faves - as well as the wagon of meat.
I was confident that you were gonna mention the meat wagon, CPC!
