70's Fun Cakes and Cake Toppers!

If you're ever flipping through old 70's magazines and find some published by Wilton about cake decorating-- don't overlook them! They are seriously jam packed with amazing imagery of some of the grooviest and most delicious looking cakes ever created! Below are perfect samples from a 1973 Cake & Food Year Book, and a 1976 Cake Decorating issue showcasing just how imaginatively possible it is to get with your holiday desserts! I've rounded out the last half of the post with highlights of super cool and tiny cake topper figures to add even more awesome to your creations: astronauts, pirates, Go-Go Swingers, circus animals, cars, cowboys 'n indians, sports and holiday-- oh, you'll even see Bat Man strangely renamed "Cat Man" --and laugh out loud as our dingbat bride tries to stop her double agent nazi spy groom at the alter from heiling Hitler!

wow. this stuff is so cool. these miniature vintage cake toppers are some of my fave things in the world. i actually have a few of these things - the little witch and cauldron, the teeny jack-o-lantern trick or treat bucket, and two of the clown heads. but man i would kill for the teeny 1" Santas and other figurines.

and of course i totally love all the teenagers! the go-go dancers all around the record player and the ones laying on their stomachs with their feet in the air. man!

and i love the clown cakes! and the red and orange and yellow balls on the tee pee cake. and those Barbie cakes - it looks like you just grab the head and turn the whole thing upside down and start eating! ha!

yay!! this is really cool! and appropriate!

happy birthday!! for 5 more minutes! :)

Turning a Barbie upside down and eating her sounds like a splendid way to spend my bday!

I knew you'd dig all that Go Go topper stuff :)

I remember those Halloween heads, my mom had a bunch of those in the same drawer with the silver dragees (look it up, I had to!) I played with them as if they were toys. I also remember they broke very easily.

You know, I'm not particularly freaked by clowns, but that doesn't mean I want their heads lolling around on my food. The Go-Go Swingers, on the other hand, are more than welcome. Their sock version of Afternoon Delight (or whatever) seems really hep! I hope people were icing their bandstand to look like the high school gym.

Great space stuff! You guys ever make me a birthday party, I thing that Gemini set would look fantastic smack in the middle of grape jello, surrounded by starfruit.

CATman? He's got a bat on his suit and he surrounded by bats and he's Catman? Maybe he wasn't licensed and they were trying to avoid getting sued...

That's EXACTLY what they were doing, haha
