The Secret of Your Mother's Tomb

Okay, it's actually "The Secret of the Mummy's Tomb" ('73) but today is Mother's Day so here's a tale for you and your best loved mummy to enjoy together. When I was a kid, I was obsessed with these Peter Pan Book & Records, and this one from the exciting G.I. Joe adventure line was my favorite. For those whippersnappers too young to remember, you would read along with the pictures while listening to the record, turning the pages at the signal. It works just as well on its own as a comic book, but if you're curious about the record itself you can find it all nicely put together right HERE on youtube, (thanks to Jim Sweet.)

Cocktails Cuervo

Time for another 1960's boozer booklet, and in celebration of Cinco De Mayo today, it just so happens to coincidently cover Cuervo Tequila. And since I find alcohol to be absolutely the most repulsive thing on the planet, I will instead steer your eyes away from the cocktail recipes and over to the colorfully illustrated pages opposite featuring Mr. Booze Bird in a variety of masterfully rendered scenes, each signed by someone named  "De La Vega." Anyone know anything about this artist?

Happy Birthday (To Me!) Part Two

More birthday greeting cards from my collection, and this time the Part Two focus is on wonderfully cute 'n cartoony illustrations of adorable animals (and one insect.) All of these range from the 1940's to the 1960's, and as you can see, a few of them do more than just open up once, in particular, the last card which opens up multiple times to create a poster measuring a few feet tall! The crying animal cards actually each contain a real glass teardrop glued to the card, other's have real string, gems, fuzzy overlays, die cuts, puppetry etc. I hope you've enjoyed this small sampling of birthday greeting cards from the Karswell Kollection.
