The Hunters Become the Hunted

Occasionally, my son will accompany me on my antique mall hunts, and a few weeks ago he made the big find of the day with a really funny painted ceramic wall plaque of two hunters getting bested by their quarry. It's an old joke we've seen many times in comics, and to be honest it never gets old. Unfortunately, we didn't buy this silly gem, and now the more I look at it, the more I'm thinking I'll be heading back over there to grab it-- and hopefully someone else hasn't beat me to it!

Being an animal lover myself, this chestnut never gets old for me either. I hope it's still there for you to buy as it's adorable.
My favorite variation of this joke is in the classic Tex Avery short"Field and Scream" from 1955 which is a sight gag short revolving around hunting and fishing as well as the misadventures of a man named Ed. Near the end of the short, Ed finds a buck and the narrator encourages him to go after it. The short ends with a bunch of hunters leaving the park with a buck tied to the hood of their car. The narrator wonders how Ed made out. We then see the buck driving the car with Ed mounted on the hood of it. "Oh well, it was nice knowing you, Ed."

That's great. So shiny! I love that it comes complete with its own sculpted tree branch frame.

On my way back up there today to see if it's still for sale, wish me luck-- and thanks for the comments! :)
