Satanic S&P

If you've followed this blog for very long then you know of my love for odd salt and pepper shakers, and when lucky 'ol me recently stumbled upon this evil, grinning pair in Jefferson City, MO a few months back, I quickly snatched them up as if my very soul were at stake! Sloppy but fun paint job on both (which I believe actually makes them even more interesting) and though their horns are unfortunately broken off because of their 1940's, molded chalk consistency, I still say they are the coolest (aka hottest) S&P shakers none the less, and make an excellent addition to my infernal collection. Both still have their original cork stoppers plugged up in there too! Yes, there definitely is a reason for the coming season! Satanic seasonings, that is!

So what seasonings would suit lil' devil salt and pepper shakers?

Powdered habanero in one and a salt & powdered Tabasco mix in the other, or just two different peppers in each?

An infernal question to bedevil a mortal indeed.

Oh, I love the sloppy coloring on these. It's always great when it's unintentional. I kind of wish the tails had been painted the color of the devils instead of their capes, but that's a mere quibble. These guys are totally excellent, even if they aren't quite as horny as they used to be.

I'm with JMR, with those big spice holes you can put all sorts of exotic stuff in these. I think I'd put a medley of dried chili flakes in one (say, rocoto and arbol, maybe smoked poblano) and then a mixture of ground corns in the other (pink and white are my faves, but you could mix up a whole bunch).

@Carol: Sprinkle some eeeeevil on something tasty-- today!

@JMR: Not sure if you have Lion's Choice in your area, but both shakers get filled with Lion's Choice seasoning. Nothing else.

@Mr C - per the non tail paint job: Maybe we're seeing the tails through the cape, similar to the way other body parts bulge through areas of clothing ;)
