All-Family Fun!

Here we go with the first AEET post of 2014-- yes, here we go with ALL-FAMILY FUN! Published in 1950 through the courtesy of Parents' Magazine by The Seven-Up Company, this 20 cent booklet of super things to do (highlighted by equally super art) is just as much fun as a wintery snow day home from school! But there's LOTS of keen stuff featured here to do all year 'round too, so make note of your favorites and mark your calendars-- you definitely wanna make the most of ALL-FAMILY FUN!

Sixteen pages of ideas, all from a twenty cent booklet, 7 Up gave you your money's worth back then.

Life was so much simpler (and entertainment was cheaper) before video games were invented.

holy cow there's a lot of freaking activities in here. and some are pretty wacky like the life-sized tic-tac-toe game. actually i'm having a hard time narrowing down the wacky ones. there's a lot. but the blueprint paper one looks really cool!. and I can't believe the person who wrote this oddly personalized activity book used linoleum and leatherette on orange crates for their kids playhouse thingy! that's so cool!

when my sister and i were kids our grandma used to have us deliver flower bouquets to all of our neighbors on May Day every year - but i've never really heard of anyone else ever doing that in real life.

the illustration of that orange crate thing is one of my faves in here but i also love that wacky guy in in the Picture Me game and the hands placing toothpicks on the bottle in the Easy Does It game and the happy kids in the Bango! game. but man those pics of real kids faces on the second page are hilarious! they all look so freaking funny!

I took a longer, second look at all the pages --

Did anyone notice that children-make-a-nest-from-their-dirty-undergarments activity to enable the Easter Bunny to place an Easter basket there?

I was a typical dumb kid during that era (I think that was the norm) and I would generally go along with anything, but I'm pretty sure I would have questioned that one. It is kinda strange.

Cool! Washy halftone screening and spot colors look so great together. I really like the kids playing the doodle game. I also like to actually play the doodle game.

ha! i was totally gonna mention that dirty undergarment easter basket activity too but after 16 pages with 3 or 4 activities on each page i forgot.

i think im gonna make that an easter tradition for myself :)
