"No Sweat" ...More or Less by Jake Schuffert

In 1968, Army Times Publishing released "No Sweat" ...More or Less, a great collection of Jake Schuffert cartoons, gathering his best gags from Army Times, Air Force Times, Navy Times, and American Weekend, plus a real nice intro from Milton Caniff (included below.) Jake is one of my all time favorite illustrators ever, with a wonderfully cartoony design style that would be hilarious even without the text. (FYI: I'll have more examples from this book in our next post too, where we'll see Jake take some gut bustin' shots at the great space race!)

Those are great! You seldom see the military being poked fun at outside of the political cartoon area. His humor is funny even to we non-enlisteds. I really love his line work too. He is a great cartoonist!

I'm really loving the detail and know-how that he put into drawing these uniforms. The way the backs of his character's shaved necks stick out over those tight starched collars just smacks of something a cartoonist would never know to do if they weren't looking at that very phenomenon in real life every day.

Indeed Amber... it's all about the lines! Wait'll you see the next batch of Jake scans!

Each gag is packed with fun stuff to look at, yet it never feels crowded or overworked, everything reads crisp and clearly... even his giant signature at the bottom of each one never distracts, blending in perfectly like a shadow or some additional form of texture.

I knew Jake while he was on active duty.We served together in the Air Transport Command as radio operators ,stationed at Westover Field, and flying scheduled flights to Europe. I served in the Berlin Air Lift and like many others I enjoyed his cartoons .

Jake was an OK guy,a plesure to know.

I found one of Jake's comics in my father's things when he passed and am interested in the date it was published. One side is titled finance and the other other thanks to S/SGT Rudy Curtis USAF working skeleton crew on weekends. Can you assist me with finding the publication date? Sincerely, Susan
