Give Them "Hell-O" For Us!

Check out these amazing WW2 era "Keep 'em Smiling" Humorous Letterheads that I stumbled upon the other day. As the packaging card reads: 3 different designs (6 pages each) and demonstrating with perfectly rendered illustrative likenesses, just exactly what we thought about all things "Axis of Evil" back in the day.

"GIVE 'EM HELL, JOE!"

These are great, and yeah, we have to ignore some racist propaganda but the colors are bright, the art is great and dynamic, and it's just fun cartooning.

Also: That's a lot of different fonts on that first picture!

Great art, I think this was printed in either in late 1942 or early 1943, since the Sherman Tank became iconic of U S tanks around that time.

The colors are still bright over eighty years old, great printing for only a dime back then.

Very interesting color separations. It's neat to see how they let the line art slip from screen to screen here and there. Mostly it's black like normal, and colored over with the other two screens. But then the key art is in blue for the undercarriage of the Jeep, a few tank treads, and many of the buildings in Berlin. Of course it's orange for the explosions. It's a very well thought out and effective finish for these well-drawn historical cartoons.
