Nobody Believes in Vampires Anymore!

Friday Frights will likely focus on the vampiric side of horror for a few weeks, as we get closer to the release of my new series of horror one-shots for Asylum Press, --the first of which is simply called, VAMPIRES, and comes out October 13th (CLICK HERE to order your copy!) Incidentally, I will not be posting any of the stories featured in that issue here at AEET, so never fear if you're worried about seeing double! Also fear not, as everything so far planned in the issue will be a lot better than this goofball story from the October-November 1978 issue of Secrets of Haunted House #14, featuring one of the worst con man plans ever concocted in a horror comic! It's still a load of freak-out fun though, none the less...

Did they have an old Clark Kent face laying around the office? No wonder that vampire has a cape!

"Scram kid! This is America -- and you can believe what you want!" Well, that lines couldn't come at a worse time!

BTW the cover of this issue is awesome. Everybody click the link and check it out.

The writer has evidently never been to a carnival or seen a sideshow. No one pays admission because they think it's real. You did warn us it was a "goofball" tale.
I did like the cotton candy simile, however.

This one cracked me up! Love the art and ending!

It does have a humorous side to it, especially in the dialog, —it’s also funny to watch the vampire’s clothes materialize back into his bones, haha

I thought the carny's scheme was pretty clever, in a post-code comics kind of a way. I kind of wish we'd gotten to see how that might have played out without the paranomality. What we got was certainly funny--I especially like how the killing stake has ossified into genuine vampire bone over the years--but I'm not sure there's anything in the whole story more humorous than Drac's reconstituted do. With the whole ratpack to choose from, my town would have to get haunted by an Undead Dino.

Looking forward to a couple week's worth of nosFeratu Fridays!
