Mud Pack Candy

We're only slightly bored off our gourds during this unfortunate new age of quarantined isolation... so let's take a sneak peek in on Candy and Trish and see what my two favorite little female knuckleheads are up to, shall we? From the February 1953 issue of Candy #35.

That art is really interesting. All the figures are elongated, it's an odd style but it works for the story.

I like the "And me! Trish! I think!" sign, that's a good gag.

I liked the Karloff and Lugosi joke at the bottom of page two. I also think the splash is really great. All the teen cats in fifties comics dens are sitting on the armchair sidesaddle and spinning discs. It's so cliche and I always love it.

What I love about these kooky old Archies rip-offs is how predictable they are for the most part, but also how they put that one or two cute little spins of originality on 'em to make them still unique in some odd way

I love them all for sure. I'm not even totally certain Archie is my favorite. I never got all that into DeCarlo, and while I love Bob Montana, I haven't had much of a chance to read any of those. (And don't get me wrong, I'm not knocking Dan, I just feel like the substance is a little bit lost in the style with that guy. And also that the style was done better by other people).

The Kilroys is probably my favorite.
