Uneeda Dolls '77

Highlights from a Uneeda Dolls sales guide from 1977, and aside from the awesome carded Wishniks image and counter display, and some of the other interesting box design / packaging (which looks more like 50's or 60's design than late 70's, see Dolly Tote and Pee Pees for examples) I really like the funny names for some of these dolls:  Baby Yummy, Wispy Walkers, Floppy Toddles, Baby Sweetums, etc... and definitely don't miss Chubby riding her goose sled packaging, Pam in her Pram, Rock-a-Tot, and the lovely illustrations on Connie and Little Pam's boxes too.

Um...did you mean Pee WEEs?

I LOVE the goose packaging for that Chubby doll! The names really are hilarious. I can't believe you didn't mention Baby Telefoam in your intro. That has to be the catchiest one.

Ha! Ooops... and now I haven't the heart to fix my adorable typo!

Hey, maybe the Pee Wees are drink and wet dolls too anyway? aka The Pee Pees!!

Wishniks!!! Those were a fad in the mid- to late-1960s, and still in a catalogue from the 1970s?

They're probably selling for a ridiculous amount of money on eBay.

Wishniks have never gone out of production, it seems... although I believe now they're just known as Trolls, obviously because of the awesome Troll movie franchise-- * laughs out loud

All the packaging is so damn brown and sort of beautifully generic. I swear the Baby Yummy packaging looks like a re-tasked Massengill box. I love the Bavarian lass-looking Floppy Toddles doll with its spray of embroidered edelweiss (and its hayride box art). I'd like it better with real staghorn pinafore buttons and a fistful of two-litre steins, but ya can't win 'em all.

The more I look at Baby Yummy, the more I'm reminded of awful pictures of baby funerals... nothing more unyummy than an infant in a casket.

Ooh, I see that too! Although I came up kind of a creepy goth type, and so those pictures don't really bother me much (or crime scene pictures or autopsy pictures or you name it). I kind of get a Halloween thrill from all that momento mori shit, digging pet graves at night, saying creepy stuff, the Voluptuous Horror of Karen Black. You know, the usual.

Haha, we were scheduled to open for Karen Black back in '96 but their tour sudden got cancelled... very bummed, I've seen them about half a dozen times live though and they're always incredible.
