Popular Magic

I totally forgot that I was going to share some of these amazing old "Popular Magic" header illustrations after my Dumminger post last week (CLICK HERE if you missed it.) And like that previous post, these illustrations are also from the Dunninger's Monument to Magic book; pulpy, black and white greatness that I'm guessing originated in some of his previously published magic trick books of the 1920's - 40's. Super illustrations that capture the eerie, mystical qualities of the old time stage, and/or parlor rountines-- and look at that brilliant lettering! I would find modern magic way more interesting if it still conveyed even an ounce of this otherworldly, arcane visual vibe.

Wow, these are great. Presumably they started life as the headers of a magic column in some weekly pulp mag? It's really groovy how many different styles and subjects (and... magic trick genres?) they cover.

I absolutely love those fonts. So much work went into drawing those! And we get a real range of styles and lighting and figure arranging.

I'm with Mr. Cavin those seem like magazine headers. Very cool.

Magic, much like juggling, is an amazing feat to see before a live audience, with the showmanship of the performer enhancing the performance.

I can only ponder what next magical wonder The Kaptivating Karswell will reveal next for his audience.

While only a few of AEET's 297 followers may post, quality is more valuable than quantity, and everything you post is the highest quality, Karswell.

My thanks to you as always.
