Scarab Curse / Witches' Sabbat / Make A Monster

Mr. Karswell has a bunch of stuff for you guys today because what would Halloween be without mummies, monsters, and all other sorts of satanic, Samhain shenanigans! These assorted Charlton and DC things were of course to be originally divided up among THOIA and AEET, --plus a few others that I guess I'll just save for another time thanks to the ongoing 2020 curse! So sit back and light the midnight jack-o-lantern fires this evening, because hellelujah folks, it's finally Helloween! Everyone have a fun and scare-filled holiday! (scans from 1, 2, 3.)

Mr. Cavin was once again up for the challenge, and he mixed up the pieces nicely to boot, haha!
Thank you, Mr. C!

The Strange Shop on Demon Street

It's been awhile since I posted a killer puppet story over at THOIA, and even less likely that I've ever posted one here at AEET, so with that, here's a freaky little terror tale (and with a Halloween setting as well) from the June - July 1974 issue of Secrets of Sinister House #18, which was the actual final issue of this short-lived, but none the less very fun DC horror series.

The Roommate

The sinister 70's hits keep a'coming, as Mike Sekowsky and Bill Draut power duo art duties and create a wonderfully taut, atmospheric chiller from the October 1973 issue of Secrets of Sinister House #14. Moonlight, muscle cars, and rockin' red heads-- what more could you ask for?

The Haunted House Mobile

We're on the supernatural highway to Halloween Hell all this weird week, so buckle up tight cuz we're putting the petrifying pedal to the macabre metal of madness with another doomed detour into 70's DC horror! From the joltin' January - February 1974 issue of Secrets of Sinister House #16, with excellent, eerie art by Ernie Chua!

Moonlight Bay!

Five more days until Halloween, and around here that means it's time to tell some hellacious horror stories! So for every day this week until the BIG day on Saturday the 31st, I'll have a spooky new story post for you featuring all your monster favorites: vampires, ghosts, mummies-- and what would Halloween be without a a big hairy scary werewolf to kick it all off? Anyway, this is also my way of saying thanks to everyone for sticking with me and temporarily switching from THOIA over here to AEET --at least until blogger gets their stupid sizing issues sorted out. Also, if you're reading this post on your phone, make sure you view it in "web version" so it displays correctly, as "mobile version" for whatever reason adds a bunch of pointlessly annoying space in between each scan. Okay, whew! So for now, face your fangs forward-- bark at the moon-- and let's get this festival of fright started! From the December 1972 issue of Secrets of Sinister House #8, with awesome art by Alex Nino!

Pirate vs. Scarecrow

I know you guys like my vintage Halloween costume posts, so here's a couple more that I stumbled upon at a thrift store yesterday. First up, a seriously scurvy looking Ben Cooper "Spook Town" Pirate from 1964, who --as Brian Barnes yo-ho-ho-noted on facebook-- defies the logic of all Halloween pirate eye patches. Also ripe for my plucking, a pumpkin-headed Collegeville Scarecrow with "sparkle velvet" frock design, aptly named "Harvest Harvey", and also from the 60's, I believe. What're you going to dress up as this year?

Dracula vs. Frankenstein

Witness this titanic terror battle between two legendary frights of fiction! Both are recent acquisitions to my ever expanding monster collection, and now both are fighting for supreme display real estate here on any one of my ominous office shelves! Who will win a coveted spot near the window? And who will be banished into the shadowy gloom of the back corner near the dusty comic book long boxes? The answer, sadly enough, came shortly after assembling the 70's Creepy Creatures Frankenstein Puzzle and realizing to my great and utter disappointment that 6 pieces were missing --and the pretty sneaky sissy / previous owner nicely included 6 pieces from some other random puzzles just to rub it in! ARGHHH!! Anyway, the box art still displays nicely on the shelf, and so in the end my Taste the Blood of Dracula silent Super 8mm hath won, reigning in victorious blood soaked winnage on the opposite side of the room betwixt the Varan the Unbelievable, and the Doom of Dracula Super 8mms. The Female Blue Beard

More classic crime creeps on the loose, and once again highlighted by the awesome art of deadly Dick Briefer --see our previous post HERE! It's another sick 'n twisted "true" tale of brutal "Bluebeard" styled terror, this time with a ferocious female fiend in the lead-- and this time from the May 1944 issue of Crime Does Not Pay #33.
