Frostee

When the weather is this hot, the only thing to do is get "Frostee"-- and Mr. Karswell has just the thing: homemade ice cream!!! Definitely one of the more adorably illustrated mid century recipe booklets I've collected over the years, and boy oh boy, this one from Lipton has the added bonus of milkshakes, cakes, puddings and puffs, and even fabulous foam sauce recipes! What's foam sauce anyway, you ask? No idea-- but it's time to get "Foamee" too!

Kenner Give-A-Show Projector

If you noticed the Kenner Give-A-Show Projector (1961) listed in our xmas catalog scans of the previous post (HERE!) and were curious to know more about it, well then you've come back to the right place! The G.A.S.P., (as I shall call it), was a fun little 60's toy for kids, completely identical to the photo projection device that your mom and dad once used many moons ago to show off their own vacation slides to friends and family, --only this time it's cartoon comic slides on a strip that you feed horizontally through the projector, and featuring all of your animated TV favorites, right there on your wall, and larger than life! Unfortunately, I don't have the projector, but I do have a mislabeled box full of colorful slide kookiness, (wait, it's "ABBA" instead of "YABBA?!") and all of which apparently came from some of the other Kenner slide box sets. And so now, without further ado, here's all sides of the box lid art, as well as all seven frames from all six slides. Enjoy!

Christmas (Catalog) in July!

We're still doing the non-summer holidays here at AEET this July, and nothing speaks "holiday" more than Gay Ray's awesome 1961-1962 toy catalog for Kresser's Service Store which was located in Wayne OH back in the day. This one seriously has it all, and wow, this was a good year for popular TV cartoon characters too, in particular those from Hanna Barbara. Some of the more fun highlights include: injured dolls, target games, wonderfully off model Flintstones, creative kits, guns for boys and brooms for girls (boo), board games galore --and more! Get fancy, and get orderin' everything for your wishlist before it's too late... I mean, I know xmas is still 5 months away, but there's no time like the presents awaitin' you under the tree!

Easter in July!

If you've been lookin' for bunnies everywhere, then you've come to the right place, as AEET celebrates non-summer holidays during the most hellaciously hottest week in July! In our last post we looked at vintage Valentines, now today we have more greeting card fun with some tasty Easter treats, two 60's / 70's cards from Hallmark featuring the cutest artwork that ever hippitty hoppitty'd on down a bunny trail. We also have die-cut windows and doors and shutters and drawers-- oh my! A house full of critters is actually no different than the current state of things around here at Karswell Manor, as just last night I had a freakin' flying squirrel in my basement!

Valentines in July!

I found a huge pile of vintage Valentines last week while out making my antiquer rounds. And man, typically these 1940's Novo Laugh cards featuring this type of fantastic artwork, can be expensive as heck, so I really lucked out stumbling upon such a fine selection-- and all in very good, completely unused condition as well! Print these out and send 'em to your own lil sweetheart, wherever they may be!















And it wasn't just Valentine cards I found either, as you will see in the next post!

I'm a Video Kideo!

I have a couple sheets of these awesome video game themed stickers made by Scholastic in 1984, and they really are a perfect pair-up of joystick love and the joy of stickers! Some of the big games of the era get their time to totally power-up and shine: Pac Man, Dragon's Lair, Burgertime, Pitfall, Q-Bert, Tron, Turbo-- and no doubt about, I'm STILL daffy for Daphne of Dragon's Lair! Super fun artwork by B.K. Taylor and Samuel B. Whitehead, and to really go for the high score gold, Jovial Bob Stine, aka R. L. Stine was responsible for the text. Here's all 20 of 'em:

I've always wondered why that last image of Video Kideo didn't included a joystick on the game control panel. So, with a little photoshop assist I added one myself and... ohhhhh... THAT'S why the illustration didn't include a joystick!
