Let it be known that I am now officially a big fan of this 1928 illustrated Buxton girl. Which also means I am equally a fan of Buxton girl fans, of which I just acquired a very lovely Deco era example. Folding inward / outward, neatly and compactly, the 3-piece fan when fully opened, reveals a pretty painted lady plucking berries from a flowery vine, while a colorful parrot watches her with feathery fascination. Signed by Buxton and dated Jan 3rd, 1928, and as noted on the backside of the fan, was a complimentary gift from THE MODEL "Store of Style and Economy" which was originally located not too terribly far away from me in Vandalia, IL.

You find some real survivors. The fact that a paper product like this is still around and the colors are gorgeous is pretty amazing.
Millinery is the making of ladies hats, which is kind of weird the model doesn't have a hat on!
Not bad. A piece of throwaway advertising that's nearly a hundred years old. Considering it was made to be used vigorously--at a derby or something--and then tossed, I'd say it's a near miracle this thing is still here with us. Thank god for collectors and curators, who keep things safe so I can look at them.
Now that it's made its way to you, in another hundred years I imagine some young enthusiast will make a similar comment via holographic VR hot chat or whatever, impressed that this paper has lasted two hundred years. But I'll be long gone by then.
