Inspector Huck and the Mad Scientist

Time once again to head to merry old England and check in with Inspector Huck on another weird case from the Hanna Barbera Huckleberry Hound Giant Storybook (1961), written by Eileen Daly, and with really wonderful illustrations by Frank Savage. If tales of mad scientists and axe wielding monster wiener sausages are your thing, then this is the tale for you!

More Halloween fun coming up!

Too bad the monster was so uncouth, it could have become Nathan's Hot Dogs mascot, Naughty Nathan.

Huckleberry Hound seemed to be the everyman (if you could call a hound a man) in Hannah Barbera cartoons, the same way Goofy was in Disney cartoons.

The last pic, the witch/skeleton looks a bit like Dora the Explorer, maybe it was Dora's mom when she was a youngster?

This book is based on an actual Huck cartoon, "Science Friction".

Oh man this is so awesome! I wish I could publish Inspector Huckleberry Hound pulp fiction featuring hotdogs.

I love that little girl at the very end too.

Have you read Exit Stage Left?

I love that skeletal Halloween costume at the end there. I want to say that she looks like Charlie Brown dressed up as Peppermint Patty in Great Pumpkin patch camo. Are those jack-o-lantern slippers she's got on? I love that. Maybe she leaves pumkin tracks.

But then again the buckle and the feather seem to indicate that it's a Thanksgiving Costume, instead. So now I don't know what to think. Maybe she's a pilgrim poisoned by cursed pumpkin pie?

Maybe.

The last image is from another story in the book. The character is a Native American boy named Little Silence... I thought I’d post that full story another time
