Curses! Foiled Again...
Part Two in our look at the photo highlights from Alcoa's Book of Decorations published in 1959 (click HERE for the previous post.) I don't know about you guys but these foil creations crack me up-- for example, the idea that any kid would choose to make a halloween mask out of this stuff shall forever remain baffling. Also, I can't help but think about how much trouble I would've been in at just the thought of wasting precious tin foil in my house as kid. Obviously it's ok here though-- in the name of art, of course! I have one more related post in the works coming up next... yes, it will finally be time to learn HOW to actually make some of these crazy tin foil treasures!

i really hope you provide the directions for that Pippi Longstockingesque hairpiece cause i don't think i'd ever figure it out on my own.

I don't know why, but the birds continue to really give me the creeps.
I wonder just how much one of those large head constructions weighs? Looks like ten boxes of tinfoil to me. Maybe eight pounds? The foil was a lot thicker back then. Love to see the kids teetering around the neighborhood on Halloween night!
that last pic is hilarious too - with what looks like a chicken. that looks like it took about at least 50 boxes of foil!

I think the last pic is from a school stage production... instead of painting the town red, they wrapped it in foil.
Mr C, have you ever seen the movie Kenny & Company? It was Don "Phantasm" Coscarelli's first feature and it's awesome... especially the awful paper machete bear costume the one kid makes. Check it out!
I have not seen that! I go in and out on Coscarelli, but in actual fact do indeed like his old stuff better. I'm adding it to the list now, but it'll still seemingly take years till I get a chance to actually watch it.
I put it right up there with the first Phantasm, it even stars Reggie Bannister and Michael Baldwin, plus a few other minor dudes who show up in Phantasm
I actually think some of this stuff is kinda neat! To this day I try to think of ways to recycle used foil. The one thing I always have in my mind though is the dirty trick a brother pulled on me as a kid.
He told me to rub a piece of tin foil against a newly placed tooth filling. It was diabolical.
