You know Halloween is getting closer when the antique malls start looking a bit more black and orange. Some recent finds: a Ben Cooper vampire witch costume from 1972 (no box though), The Hunchback of Notre Dame on Super 8, as well as a very funny Mr. Magoo Super 8 for "Sloppy Jalopy." Tis the reason for my upcoming season! 97 days and counting...

I feel like I've said this before, but back in the seventies I always hated the smocks on these things. What actual monster would walk around wearing its own picture on its own shirt for god's sake? That like wearing the tour tee for the very show you're attending. Changed clothes in the bathroom after hitting the concession stand. Lame. When I was a kid, I used to wear the masks but come up with the clothes myself. Real monsters wear ripped-up long johns shirts and bloodstained flannels. Ace bandages all over their arms. That sort of thing.
But of course now, as an adult, the smocks are my favorite part. This one is super awesome. Great find.
Hi, Karswell. Do you live in a particularly antique rich area? I've never seen even a fraction of your finds in local shops. Great items, sir.
Yes, I live in an incredibly rich area for antique malls, indeed! I’ve lived everywhere across the US, from Honolulu Hawaii and Los Angeles, to Clearwater FL, and none of those places have the incredible amount of endless (and affordable) treasure that I find here in the Midwest. I have over a half dozen top notch antique malls all within a 1 hour driving distance of my current residence which I routinely make the rounds.
That costume is amazingly pristine -- don't see any bends in the mask and the smock is still super bright. I love the side-saddle cat on the smock (it looks like it might have been cut in from another piece of art.)
I guess if there's anything you can watch without the sound it's Mr. Magoo! Do your own mumbling!
