Chilly & Grim Terror Horror Weirdness!
AEET kicks off the month of October with a handful of Halloween posts featuring spooky chills and terrifying thrills to get you into the mood-- and what better way to do it than to take a few tips from Mr. Karswell's other blog, THE HORRORS OF IT ALL! In the 1950's, Standard Comics had a fun way to pad out their precode horror titles (see Adventures into Darkenss, Out of the Shadows, and The Unseen) with funny filler gags and puzzling mazes. I love these (again). The very idea of using cadaver grubs for fish bait is just so spectacularly wiggy that I want to see it as the first chapter in one of those post-Evil Dead homages. You know: corpse-fed larva infect bottom feeders, which, in turn, infect small-town fish fry. Everyone starts to go bad. Gore ensues.
Love that little dead guy in the last comic on the "Grim Grins" page.
One of the comics manages to combine the horror genre with the well-worn "men never ask for directions gag!" Bravo, poor, overworked gag writer!
Too bad Weird Watson was only used a few times, he would have made an interesting horror host for the likes of Creepy or Eerie.
