One more post from the pages of the March 1965 issue of Pageant magazine (see our last two posts for more), and this is a funny, MAD style illustrated article called "The Coming Shortage of Women" (oh no!) written by Sy Reit and highlighted by the usual top notch art stylings of the one and only Wally Wood. Hope everyone enjoyed this glimpse into the world of Pageant.

That was pretty clever. Of course there were a few outdated attitudes regarding men doing "women's work," but overall I took no offense. In fact I'm having fun picturing Caesar Romero, Mickey Rooney, and Kirk Douglas as Jo, Meg, and Beth.
So killing off half the male population isn't an option? Too bad.
Man, that got really Wally Woody by the last page there. Personally, I'd like to see more of those gender-bent comics. I get the joke; but taken out of context, they are all pretty outre. Sort of like a daily comics transpocalypse. Oh, Rocky!
The last page with all of the alien women disembarking from the spaceship,
Back then it was looked upon as a joke or a cruel joke, but nowadays there would be a thriving industry for lonely guys to date women from another planet (no/low risk of making a baby, no commitment, no STDs)
It gives a new twist on the book 'men are from Mars women are from Venus'
Mestiere hit the nail on the head...the law of Unexpected Consequences of China's one-child law has reduced the female population drastically in that country.
Another problem: men's fertility rates worldwide have gone down steadily for years. Weak sperm can't be built up by exercising the love muscle, if you know what I mean.
This article is mind-blowing, not for the subject matter, but that Sy Reit and Woody did it for someone other than Mad.
