How's Your Driving?

I was watching a kooky animated driving short on youtube earlier today, and it reminded me that I have this totally cool booklet from 1952 with fun illustrations and assorted safety tips. Pretty sure that's Hunter S. Thompson on page 8...

The title slightly reminded me of a UPA film produced around the same era called "Look's Who's Driving". Just thought I'd share it here while we're on the subject of driver's safety....

I love the night driving pic. And the winter snowman one.

Man as far as I can tell virtually no one on the roads these days drives for pleasure. Just a bunch of angry drivers trying to be first. I much prefer driving side roads with no one around

Whoa, I love that sexy Hirschfeld line that defines the rather abstract car on the cover. I am a little sorry that nothing inside looks very much like that style of expression, although I don't mean to indicate that I don't think the more traditional cartooning in the majority of the book isn't also very good. I think I like the Hunter S. illustration the best. I really dig the loosey crosshatching here and there. I'm starting to think that the very best commercial art is stuff that is, at once, both immediately clear and also obviously only about twenty seconds worth of work. Of course that's definitely easier said than done.
