Instant Flood Control (For Home Use)

With everything under control in our previous post (or is it?), it's now time to address the flooding problem we're facing in the basement! Yep, just when you thought you'd seen the last of these old novelty gag gift boxes, here we go with another one! And once again, the art inside and out is quite stellar and very funny, while the tiny added prop really smells, errr sells, the 'ol twisteroo punchline.

The guy would have been better off calling in The Three Stooges as plumbers, they wouldn't have done a worse job - or would they?

For some reason, the lady's outfit made me think she was in the army, I guess it is due to the coloring scheme of her dress.

The diaper featured would be viewed as a historic artifact dating from the era B P - Before Pampers.

The box lid illustration just has to be an illustrator I've heard of. I can't quite put my finger on who, but that's a newspaper comic guy, right? I felt the same way about the last post. But then I thought, well, maybe it's just a bit of a knockoff. Borrowing a famous style. But here's another one, in a different style, that's just as well done. I wonder if these images were sourced from some syndicated gag cartoon slush pile? I know that periodicals with syndicate subscriptions had access to reams of gag filler, and would sometimes alter the formatting or remove text depending on necessity. Maybe that's happening here?

However it happened, the art here is super.

Yeah the art is spectacular. It's cartoony and full of motion and good expressions. I'm with Mr. Cavin here; I'm wondering if maybe this novelty maker was just looking at old gag books, found pictures they liked, and then bought them and built gags around them?

I wonder if they did the same thing for the diaper they did for Stink-or, i.e., add patchouli oil to the figure.
