Backyard Monorail, or Twin Sails for Your Bike

As winter winds down, and spring time approacheth, the need for (outdoor) speed arises! Ehhh... that's about all I can muster this morning for an intro, as my need for other indoor things far exceeds anything spring or speed could provide. Annnnd I guess these two pages from the June 1953 issue of Science and Mechanics (the magazine that shows you how) are probably self explanatory enough. I totally love those bug-eyed boys on the cover though...

Ha ha! What could possibly go wrong? Here kids, straddle this and jump!

I'm glad you shared these pages after teasing them on Wednesday. Man, I wonder who actually made these. I wonder if there are any family photos or home movies of that?

The bug eyed guys reminded me of the spacemen from the movie "Killers From Space".

Now there is an idea for an Ed Wood type film, Earth is saved from invasion from fifth columnist bug eyed aliens disguised as suburban homeowners, thanks to a brunette beauty in a bathing suit!

As for the do it yourself pre-Jackass plans, it is interesting to learn that suicidal stunts were in the minds of kids and adults back in the day. Nothing really changes, does it?
