It may be the 4th of July here in America today, but is everything, in fact, under control? That was hardly an issue back when this funny old novelty gag gift box was created nearly a half century or so ago. Lovely artwork on the inside and out though, with some very cute, doll-sized clothing to keep everything from REALLY going out of control! So who's laughing now, right? Riiiiiight...

OK since I'm first I'll take the bullet for this (which works with the military theme.). I assume the underwear is glued down but I wondering what they drew under that.
I like the art style here, the elongated faces, and nice expressions all around.
Yeah, I'm not laughing, it's a bit hard to do through clenched teeth at this point.
Under garments for Barbie before Barbie appeared on store shelves, nice.
Back in the day this would be considered risqué, today this is considered "yeah, so?" It truly was a different world back then.
I'll never tell!
I think its funny that hey have a demure euphemism for clothes. Under control, hah! Course, it isn't as if "underwear" and even "panties" weren't initially also demure euphemisms. A prudish people will apparently stack euphemisms a mile deep, using one until they forget its demure, then rejecting it for something more oblique (it's one of the reasons we use the word "gender" to mean "sex" now: We borrowed "sex" to mean something else it's hard to label without some even older euphemism, and now we hesitate to say it).
I was going to express my surprise that you were able to locate an example of this gag that had not had the cloth torn off by curious children long ago. But thinking it over, this seems more like a miracle than a surprise. The art is very nice, even if the image of marines marching on Missouri feels uncomfortably prophetic.
