The Girls of Napa (1973)

Not to be confused with "The Girls of" from the other, more adult oriented, Playbunny type magazine, todays AEET post is here to remind you that "The Girls of" from practically anywhere can be just as alluring and rockin' --even those modeling for an old Napa auto parts catalog via 1973. Along with all of the high performance accessories and automative equipment of the era, we also get a fabulous taste of heavenly hairstyles and total fox fashion! Yep, over 255 pages of service and supplies, plus hot pants and go-go boots which are of course just as much in demand as super wides and squeegees! So scroll through this collection of perfectly posed pretties --those bare legs and belly buttons are sure to give your battery a powerful boost! I included two extra images at the very end because I thought they were great examples of retro illustrated characters on product displays, (and unfortunately, doesn't really seem to be a thing anymore these days.)

The concept of The Girls of Napa lives on in Japan via Race Queens, though Race Queen outfits are much skimpier (not that anyone is complaining, mind you).

The accessories on the shelves and pegboards reminds me of my trips to my nearby Pep Boys. Even if I didn't need any parts or oil, it still was a way to kill time looking at all of the car based items.

I love this all as a document of a time; hairstyles, hot pants, even the patterns on the dresses. That said, I don't know if I can get onboard houndstooth christmas colored hot pants!

The woman with the battery booster cables looks like she is in a hostage situation and I'd rather not know more!

The women in the red racing suit, off to her right, is what looks like a foot shaped replacement pedal. I forgot how many crazy ways there was to customize cars back then!

This is wonderful. Nothing quite has its cheesecake and eats it too like lampooning real objectification by ploinking quite conservatively dressed models into a realistic-looking auto parts store. It feels like a blown raspberry to every topless car wash and issue of Easy Rider (and etc.) trying desperately to toe the line of gender expectation by eroticizing car junk. All while, you know, actually presenting us with fetching faces from, I dunno, church? Barn dinner theater? I love the clothes, of course--but it's the set-ups that really get me there. Sylvia vamping in the chemical aisle (two pictures!). Elaine with the fire extinguishers like some kinda Vanna White. Betty frolicking back in the seat covers. Is it hot in here or just climate change?

I like the looks of that short skirt - I think I'll buy me one of them fire extinguishers

Rare 2nd comment: Is the model from pic 4 and 9 the same model as pic 13 with a different wig? THE MYSTERY DEEPENS!

Looks like her to me!

I have to say the blonde in orange on the cover looks so different in pic 14 I almost feel like it’s a different person, although it isn’t. I guess it’s all about angles sometimes
