It's been about 20 years since I was last in Paris, but I do remember quite fondly that everything in today's wonderfully illustrated, two page spread (that I've kindly edited into one image) from the March 1959 issue of Girlwatcher is 100% accurate concerning the lovely ladies of that fine, fair city. Click the image below to enlarge it, and look it over very closely, and very carefully-- and if you've been to Paris, tell me I am not correct! ;)
I really do wish this magazine had artist credits, because it is seriously jammed packed with so much fun and sexy art, and I will be scanning more from it over the next few posts for you-- including some of the gorgeous girlie photos! On a side note: we at AEET are very sad about recent developments with the fire at Notre Dame, and want all Parisians to know that our hearts are with you.

Omg this is amazing! I love the artist magnifique window so much! And the dancers in the bottom left corner!
Sudden urge to visit Paris via time machine.
"The French, They are a Funny Race"- but they sure know how to have a good time!
There was some scientific research done that showed the French eat foods high in fat but suffer fewer heart attacks, one reason was because of all the red wine the French drink, (it supposedly keeps LDL levels down) though the main reason might be because they have lower stress levels than in the US, what with all the flirting between the sexes and all.
Vive la France! Notre Dame will rise from the ashes because you can't keep the French down for very long.
This is beautiful. I think my favorite vignette starts with the lost English and American tourists trying to get information from the gendarme who is distracted by the women running down the street snatching the man's hat. That man? Chasing women! Those women? Chasing a man! (He is upsetting a fruit cart.) But it's pretty close to tied with the gendarmes who are measuring the regulation length of one lady's stockings while another lady steals a scoutmaster right off the street. They love a man in uniform!
Anyway, I like that there is a theme of distracted map reading. Those aren't even the only two examples.
Just like the fabulous city itself, its easy to get lost in all of this beautiful scenery, and for me its hard to find a favorite area-- but girls sunbathing along The Seine or on a rooftop will always be high on my list. I also love the people dancing inside the store at the bottom left corner.
More from this issue up next!
This is like a nudie-cutie version of those giant maps you used to get at Dizneeland.
The street cat-fight is unique.
I would say the artist of this particular picture is Leonard Shortall, given the self-plug on the building. Leonard Shortall was a children's book illustrator whose drawings graced many covers offered by Scholastic/Arrow books from our childhood.
Good eye, Tom! You’re probably right
Very sad about the Notre Dame cathederal.I'm currently reading the hunchback of Notre Dame novel. There's a lot of history and information about the cathederal in it.
