15 Cute & Clever Valentines

I've posted a lot of assorted kiddie Valentine cards here at AEET over the years (check the archive), but this is definitely the first time I've ever posted an entire packaged set. 15 Cute & Clever Valentines sold for 29 cents in either the late 50's or 60's and featured an adorable selection of lovestruck children, animals, and living inanimate objects, all pining for affection and rendered in a truly fun and perfectly precious painted art style. I've scanned these a bit larger than usual so you can really see the detail, now all you have to do is print 'em out and give 'em to your sweetheart-- there's even one for teacher! Happy Valentine's Day!

FYI: Some of you may recognize a few repeats here from previous Feb 14ths-- the blonde in the tub and the matches for example, but in posting an entire packaged set it was necessary to include them all.

Ah! The days before Valentines were linked to some other marketable pop culture item!

i love these - esp the matches and the girl at the wood stove - but man that train kid on the package is the best!

Wow, the grammar--"Tye up with me" "Your my Valentine"... Teachers must have loved these!

I like the egg valentine, its cute in its own way. Of course, this raises the question- is the boy egg wearing a bow tie or a belt? Is the girl egg wearing a neck ribbon or fashion belt?

What a conundrum.

I agree with Allen's brain and Karswell, Valentines day used to be about cards, candy and flowers, now it is about commercialism. Its a shame that Valentine's colors have moved from red and pink to dollar green.

Indeed, it seems the point of modern kiddie valentine's has lost 100% meaning-- all the cuddly cuteness and witty warmth of young love completely replaced with bland 'n blah commercial tie-ins currently experiencing its dwindling 15 minutes of fame. It's actually a pretty good sum up of today's throwaway culture.

Scrambling a boy egg is sort of the same as milking a bull, right? Happy Valentine's Day!

I sure look forward to each new holiday around here. Thanks, man.
