15 Cute & Clever Valentines

I've posted a lot of assorted kiddie Valentine cards here at AEET over the years (check the archive), but this is definitely the first time I've ever posted an entire packaged set. 15 Cute & Clever Valentines sold for 29 cents in either the late 50's or 60's and featured an adorable selection of lovestruck children, animals, and living inanimate objects, all pining for affection and rendered in a truly fun and perfectly precious painted art style. I've scanned these a bit larger than usual so you can really see the detail, now all you have to do is print 'em out and give 'em to your sweetheart-- there's even one for teacher! Happy Valentine's Day!

The Maidens '65 Calendar ***ADULTS ONLY!***

The Maidens calendar (1965 / Enrol Publishing Company) was an adults only, award winning (really?) "portfolio of selected girls from down the street or up your alley... aka "Top Goes the Maidens" a new dimension in humor and hilarious beyond description... everybody's favorite girls sporting the latest fashion... the topless bathing suit, evening gown and street wear. Satire at it's best, and reproduced in full color." (all text taken from the back of the calendar.) Illustrated by L. Peterson, these comically "unattractive" women were featured in at least 5 different calendars from 1965-'69 and maybe even more, (see also The Lovelies); as well as in paperbacks and on drinking mugs. Apologies regarding the scans here, my copy is as heavily stained and moldy as the maidens.

The Brain

Dan DeCarlo's name and illustrative genius needs no introduction, and today I have some silly stories about an obnoxious, egg headed character of his called, ironically enough-- THE BRAIN! He's sort of a Dennis the Menace type junior brat, intentionally and unintentionally causing endless harm and mayhem to those unfortunates that just simply happen to be around him. Everything featured in todays post originally appeared in Magazine Enterprises' September 1956 issue of The Brain #1, but my scans actually come from the I.W. Publishing full reprint version released in 1958.

Colorful Colorado

I haven't posted a travel brochure in a while, and this is an exciting one with top notch design from Burlington Route promoting the Vista-Dome Denver Zephyr that sent you sailing on the rails overnight from Chicago to Colorado. A truly beautiful train that took you right into the heart of the most beautiful section of the USA! Great 50's key art mixed with photography and fun typography make this a really wonderful brochure-- some highlights featured below.
