AAA Tour Book 1968-69

We're still traveling around and looking for fun places to stay, fun things to eat, and fun things to do. And this AAA Tour Book of North Central (includes America and portions of Canada) from 1968-69 just might do the trick... it's definitely full of super fun advertising design and incredible illustrations! I seriously want to hear from people that have been to any of these places-- especially Flintstones Bedrock City (which is still operating, click HERE!)

Gay Atlanta '66

Okay, we had a blast of sun 'n fun in 1950's Phoenix (see our last post HERE), but now it's time to get down 'n dirty with something a bit more risqué in the grand state of Georgia. Re-setting the time machine coordinates ahead one decade to Atlanta-- the week of September 12th, 1966-- where we find a bevy of lovely go-go pussycats ready to take it off and bare it all for us! Now, if the revealing splendors (and sizzlin' ad design) of the first half of this post are too hot for you to handle, try the last half of scans for some swarmy, low key lounge crooning, jaw-dropping black face entertainment, or fine wine 'n dining --and for the kids there's always Shakey's Pizza or IHOPGay Atlanta, published by Frank Tuggle, was the city's first guide magazine and issued weekly as far back as 1937.

Phoenix Visitor '52

The frigid weather here in STL makes me wish I was currently in a much warmer climate, just as much as I wish I could go back to another time era, like say the 1950's.  And man, if I had the time machine technology to do so, I'd totally set the coordinates to Phoenix AZ, the week of Jan 4th - 11th, 1952 (I know, I know, it's only January 3rd today, but I like to have a day to plan out my travels through time!) This Phoenix Visitor's Guide / Tourist's Magazine published by Bruce A. Ogilvie in the 50's will definitely come in handy for finding all the things necessary to make this getaway a winner. Hmmm, corned beef at Herman's, or maybe a broiled lobster at The Saratoga after a day of antiquing sounds good, also a rejuvenating dip in a hot mineral well at Buckhorn Baths-- I just hope I'm not too relaxed to keep my eyes open that night at the Indian Drive-In for The Son of Dr. Jekyll! And if I have half as much fun in AZ as the miniature people fantastically illustrated in these ads are having, you know I'll be back for more!

Understanding Your New Rugs & Carpets

In the cold, harsh morning light of your post-New Years Eve Super Party, you suddenly notice that not only have you yourself barely survived last nights festivities unscathed, but the same goes for your poor new Harmony House carpet! How many drinks and chip dip could someone possibly spill in one evening? How much puke and urine can a single person disgustingly expel from their poor, wasted body? And uh oh-- IS THAT BLOOD over in the corner?!! Eeeek! Good thing you have the gorgeously designed and fantastically illustrated Understanding Your New Rugs & Carpets booklet from Sears Roebuck and Company, Simpson-Sears Limited, 1962. Yes my friend, you are most certainly going to need more help than just a quick vacuuming this morning!
