Whoa, just in time for Halloween-- I stumbled upon this old package of 1950's steel Witch Pins containing some really great midcentury wicked witch and black cat art. Still quite a few pins inside this thing too, and perfect for inserting into that voodoo doll of your current vict-- errr, I mean, perfect when sewing up that homemade Halloween costume for the kiddies!
OK one thing I've started notice about some of these older packaging is just how sparse it is; there's not a lot of text and even when colored, it's a simple single color plus B&W.
ReplyDeleteIt's just very striking. It would really stick out on a shelf.
There is some weirdness, too, like there's a lot of font choices, and the witch and the cat are in completely different styles. That's not a complaint, it all works, just interesting.
How the pins, moon, and framing circle work together is a really nice touch.
Witchfinders in England used to jab pins into "devil maks" on suspected witches to see if they felt pain. I wonder if this was the pin company's dark joke.
ReplyDeleteGood points by all, --literally! haha

ReplyDeleteI think you've watched 'Mark Of The Devil' once too often, but we don't judge here. :)
Those are really cool. Great display for Halloween.
