Star Lard

I'm not sure of the date on this Armour's Star Lard recipe booklet, (1940's maybe, from the design looks of things), but the recipes are fresh and very tasty sounding, and you certainly cannot beat the awesomeness of that little illustrated chef guiding you through the pages. Whether he's ringing a delicious doughnut, sawing away at a mince meat bar, throwing star shaped cookies at your head, or strugglin' with the menu destined pigs and chickens-- this guy means business! I especially love the image of him jammin' out with a giant fork under the peach cobbler recipe! Rock on, Teeny Chef!

  1. I couldn't help but think that Star Lard might be an ingredient used in recipes from the little-known H.P. Lovecraft cookbook!

  2. Golgoroth Scouts gotta sell something. Man, I love how ornery that little chef looks. Somebody knows their kitchen staff, I'd say.

    1. I like to imagine that he's a combination of the Mayrose Meat Man and the Zuni fetish doll from Trilogy of Terror

  3. Man I really really love these little cookbooks! The little chef is cute but I'm not a big fan of the crabby, scowly look like you guys. But I do like the images of him sawing the mince bar and carrying the giant pie.

I also really love the recipes. I totally want to try the Ham Sticks, the Peach Conserve Pie and of course the Mince Meat Bars!

  4. I wonder if the mini chef was Grandpa Stroehmann before he trimmed his mustache and mellowed out as he got older.

(Google images of Grandpa Stroehmann and see for yourself)

  5. I'm not sure if he's so much scowling as to me he just seems to be hardcore cheffing

  6. I've done some hardcore cheffing in my (culinary institute, etc) and the only time I ever looked like that was when I was an unhappy camper.

But maybe it's just the dudes that look like that while cheffing hardcore.
