Sorry for the delay, here are the rest of the highlights from
The World of Barbie Magazine Annual from 1964 (see the first part
HERE!) featuring fun 'n festive holiday party pix, recipes (mmmm hidden hot dogs!), full color fashion, and that long awaited trip into surreal space that
Mr. C has been dying for now for a few weeks! Hope everyone enjoyed this look at 60's
Barbie, and believe it or not, I actually still have MORE vintage
Barbie stuff to post but I'm thinking I might hold off and do it later this summer-- you'll just have to bookmark
AEET and keep checking back!
wow - i i was totally thinking whoever wrote The Fragile Forest dropped acid before they wrote it - but it was all a dream! Ken's toothbrush in his helmet and all! thank god.
ReplyDeletebut then again maybe my pea brain just couldn't compute anything else after i saw that first pic with the teeny weeny doll sized clown mask. i am still in shock over that. i want it so bad now and i don't even completely understand if it was something they actually sold or if it was just made for the mag layout. the little teeny cake too! i want both of those things real bad. i have to go look for them now.
thank you for adding more fuel my crazybrain :)
as per usual
oh yeah - and i think it goes without saying but i'll say it anyway - i love the recipes! esp that brownie one! i gotta give that a whirl someday!
ReplyDeleteI love the way Barbie's space helmet looks like a sand bucket. I guess the Fragile Forest was achieved with paper cutouts? Looks great! Man, I was in no way expecting to see a ten-page story. That would've been worth the wait even without any bonus Halloween party action (not to mention that awesome Hitchcocky herringbone suit Barb's wearing in image nine). Awesome stuff.
ReplyDeleteI have to admit, my favorite thing here is the Anything Can Smile scan-- that candle has the cutest lips!
ReplyDeleteyeah - i really liked that too.
ReplyDeletei love the line "happiness is always in style."
Whoever did the photo layouts showed some real creativity. The lighting, the shadows, the setup etc. Whoever took the pictures had one thing going for him (or her). No matter how long it took or how many pictures were needed, at least the models in question didn't give any lip during the shoot. ;)
ReplyDeleteThis reminds me, JMR, check this site for some really great images from the Barbie View Master, among other interesting VW imagery (also a teeny VW viewer!):

I think they missed a great opportunity to put Barbie in one of those old horror model kits in the back of Warren magazines :)
ReplyDeleteDon't make me say BARBIE-RELLA, Brian!
ReplyDeleteThe Barbie bride of Frankenstein?
DeleteBarbie as Fay Wray to King Kong?
The makers og Barbie missed the horror niche entirely!
Something tells me that Mattel still did pretty good with their gazillion dollar Barbie franchise, regardless.
