Psyche at Nature's Mirror

This is just a quick update to my Royal Dux "The Bather" statue from a few posts ago (HERE.) I found a perfect, though faux marble, pedestal which now fits her nice and starkly between my two large, living room book cases. Realizing the wall space above her head suddenly felt a bit empty, and in keeping with the theme of "bare breasted and bare footed babe on a rock", I added my favorite vintage, tin advertising beverage tray featuring Psyche, White Rock's fabulous mineral water mascot. Originally painted by German artist, Paul Thuman in the late 1800's, and originally titled "Psyche at Nature's Mirror", the owners of White Rock purchased the rights to the painting after seeing it at the Chicago's World's Fair (aka the World's Columbian Exposition) in 1893, thus making her the oldest running beverage mascot still in use today. But what a pair, right?!

  1. That's some fine design work, the colors, the art, the cases, all of that really match, and some old favorites like the drink bottles make an appearance, and tarman wondering how their brains taste.

Did you ever post the wooden guys at the top right?

  2. Yeah that's great. The greens of the White Rock grass and the Royal Dux pedestal totally match. It's like they were made to sit together.

Those book cases kick serious ass too.

  4. It looks like they could be sisters, only the bather dyed her hair and left her wings at home for safe keeping.

If you didn't show the bather in a previous post, no one would have guessed that the pedestal wasn't part of the statuette. Nice touch, and a nice addition to Karswell Kastle.

I guess I haven't! I'll give ya all a better peak at 'em soon!

One of my favorite short story collections! And thanks about the book shelves, they're not terribly old, but the deco / mission style definitely matches all the other wood around this old 40's hunting lodge I reside in. Errr I mean, --in this haunted old castle on a cliff overlooking the ocean!

I was actually thinking how cute "The Bather" would look with a little matching set of butterfly fairy wings of her own... definitely something worth experimenting with, and if so, another update post will be uploaded.

    Thanks everyone! :)
