Fun little stack of 1940's war era postcards I found the other day featuring a nice variety of va-va-voom good girl art and silly jokery. The artist of the second card found a mighty lucrative career in greeting cards as I totally recognize the style and own quite a few excellent examples. Anyway, keep those home front fires a'burnin', boys-- you definitely know what's worth fightin' for!

Yup, the artist in the 2nd card is somebody I've seen a good bunch of, but my favorite is the 4th card.
I'm always enchanted by artists that draw women realistically but draw the guys like cartoons. I'm never sure if that is a lifted style (like some famous cartoon strips of the day) or a thought out thing to move the good girl art to the front. It's a really interesting style.
My fave is definitely the second one. From the figure drawing to the clothing styles to that smug look on the sailor's face. I would love to see an animated cartoon of those guys bouncing merrily along the boardwalk.
I love the whole collection, burlesque style humor that has its fans then and now.
I have a theory as to why the guys look cartoony and the gals look gorgeous- everyone was looking at the gals, who cares what the guys look like.
The guys could have been drawn as stick figures and nobody would notice.
