Pretty sure all cigarettes are made with shitty stuff just as equally disgusting as equine road apples, but this is still a funny pack of novelty gag coffin sticks I saw at an antique mall a while back. I have no idea how old they are, and I didn't buy 'em either because even joke cigs make me wanna gag, --still, there's funny text on all sides, not to mention a hilarious typo or two. Now isn't that sweed?
Well there's a novelty gag that's new to me! I'm not sure how much use you could get out of it ... and I think a smoker trying to bum a cig is probably antsy enough with withdraws to not want to read the humorous packaging!
ReplyDeleteSo they're real cigarettes--albeit dirt cheap--with a hilarious gag wrapper? Searching around online I see they are still for sale in Mexico (and a lot of vintage stores where people are off-loading grandad's supply of novelty treasure). I've never seen these before (which is strange, what with the grandad I had...).
ReplyDeleteI seem to remember these as a kid, maybe at a tourist shop in the Ozarks or somewhere. Of course I might be getting it confused with all the other highly treasured corny gag stuff of my childhood.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the comments!
I was snooping in my dad's home office circa 1955 and found a pack of Horse Shit Cigarettes. I asked Dad what they were, and he said, "Oh, they're just a joke." I said, "Better get rid of them before Mom sees them," and he replied, "You're right!" Next time I looked for them they were gone. I shoulda kept my mouth shut!
ReplyDeleteIn the 1970s, I'd go south of the border to pick up this, that and the other thing, and Horseshit cigarettes were always on the list.
ReplyDeleteI would give them to smokers I knew. They didn't speak much to me after that. There used to be a silent YouTube video shot with an 8 mm camera about them.
My cousin's parents had a package which they purchased in the Bahamas in the mid 60s. My cousin always got a kick (sorry for the gag) out of seeing it and showing it to some friends.
