Five more days until Halloween, and around here that means it's time to tell some hellacious horror stories! So for every day this week until the BIG day on Saturday the 31st, I'll have a spooky new story post for you featuring all your monster favorites: vampires, ghosts, mummies-- and what would Halloween be without a a big hairy scary werewolf to kick it all off? Anyway, this is also my way of saying thanks to everyone for sticking with me and temporarily switching from THOIA over here to AEET --at least until blogger gets their stupid sizing issues sorted out. Also, if you're reading this post on your phone, make sure you view it in "web version" so it displays correctly, as "mobile version" for whatever reason adds a bunch of pointlessly annoying space in between each scan. Okay, whew! So for now, face your fangs forward-- bark at the moon-- and let's get this festival of fright started! From the December 1972 issue of Secrets of Sinister House #8, with awesome art by Alex Nino!
Hah! Having no idea this story exited, I wrote it myself for some elementary school or junior high creative writing assignment. I mean, there were subtle differences. My hero wanted to escape to the moon as a cure for his disease, and so designed the mission to that end. Then I bogged down in a whole lot of pre-Wikipedia research about exactly how often, and for what duration, the earth would appear to be full from the moon's surface. I'm still not sure.
ReplyDeleteCourse, the easy answer would be to pilot the ol' lunar module to the dark side of the moon, which always faces away from the Earth. Problem solved.
Awesome werewolf Tuesday!
Would love to read it, Mr. C!
ReplyDeleteI have an alternate story for this one -- NASA *knew* he was a werewolf and wanted to do an experiment on him. The whole story -- nearly forcing him to go, etc, makes sense in that context!
ReplyDeleteI started off by thinking "but... part of the moon has to be full somewhere" and sure enough they did include that in the story.
ReplyDeleteBut shouldn't a full earth cause a wolf on the moon to turn into a wereman?
