Various wit and wisecracks taken from the brilliant mind and works of Mark Twain, and reprinted in a neat little black and yellow hardcover collection by Harper & Brothers in 1961 for Peter Pauper Press. You've got a real handful of hysterical gems here, and it's all spruced up nicely with some wonderfully funny illustrations by Henry R. Martin, whose "Comic Epitaphs" (HERE) collection is another "must-own" book of graveyard tombstone humor! :)
These are all great sayings. Mark Twain understood human nature and human beings better than the entire faculties of every college in his day and today.
ReplyDeleteAm I the only one who likes Mark Twain? Any other posters out there? Hello?
ReplyDeleteI was thinking the same thing! ðŸ˜
ReplyDeleteYou know what just happened to me today? I finally got the asshats at the bloated cable monopoly we all share to flip whatever switch it is that means I can post here again. I moved in almost two weeks ago. I have never lived in any country where things have been so difficult and slow. Welcome home!
ReplyDeleteLoved this, by the by. Thought the second-hand diamonds was gonna be my fave till I got to the prosperous dog. Man, that's probably worth getting as a tattoo.
Welp, off to make comment on other posts I've neglected.
Welcome back, Mr.C! 😊
ReplyDeleteWelcome back to the world wide web, Mr. C.
ReplyDeleteNow you know why I never bothered to get cable, I get enough trouble with Verizon as it is!
Besides, I have to work for a living (I know, Horrors!) so I don't have much free time to watch TV, regular or cable, and considering the wasteland that is TV today, I'm better off watching a video or surfing the web. I'd much rather read THOIA or "And Everything Else Too" than ever watch (Gag!) Honey Boo Boo (BOO!) or the Kardashians (Gag! Choke!)
Is there anyone who can tell me why the Kardashians are so great? Did they find a cure for cancer or solve the world's energy problems or something? Being famous for the sake of being famous doesn't count as really being famous in my book.
Sorry for the rant but when garbage is considered pure gold by the masses it only proves the whole world is all kinds of messed up.
Keep up the great work Karswell!!!
cute illustrations. i scanned a couple Peter Pauper Press cookbooks! they are a neat size and shape and had really cool illustrations in them too. i'll have to post them for xmas this year - i totally forgot about them last year
ReplyDeleteSame artist?
