Ghostly Gallery

A few years back, I posted scans of Fred Banbery art from another amazingly spooky collection of stories called Haunted Houseful (click HERE if you missed it) --and today we have more! This selection of eerie imagery comes from Alfred Hitchcock's Ghostly Gallery, Random House / 1962, containing supernatural gems by Algernon Blackwood, F. Marion Crawford, H. G. Wells, Henry Kuttner, Robert Louis Stevenson, and many more. Man, I'd love to see Banbery's work in person-- it's fantastically fun and downright terrifying-- definitely the nightmare stuff that fueled the imaginations of my generation.

  2. I like every single one of these (especially the Lord Dunsany and the one with the creepy moose-man). I think I've said this before, but I really miss seeing a lot of pencil and charcoal work in illustration. These seem so vibrant and effortless.

  4. There's little to add here except another vote for how great this artwork is. That was always the highlight when I was in school -- the book fair. Anything with monsters (and, of course, this month's Dynamite) I'd get. Puzzle, stories, mazes, make-up, I loved them all.

  5. Great illustrations. I love those ghost story collections. There was an ABC Weekend Special of "The Haunted Trailer" starring Lauren "Loveboat Julie" Tewes. I wonder if it was the same story. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0345379/
There was also a 2014 movie starring Ron "'Nuff Said" Jeremy. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2224227/
