While searching for a Jack and Jill back issue in my collection for an AEET follower (still looking Ramona!), I found another I have not yet posted, this one from 1971. And since we have a spooky theme going on here so far this month, let's just go ahead and call it "Halloween in April" and commence with the All Hallows ceremonies, --even though we're about 6 months early! So here are some typically adorable haunted highlights from the first half of this fantastic issue: art, songs, games... I'll have the rest in our next post, just click HERE!
The vocal melody on that song is a little strange if you ask me!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the scans. I had this one as a kid and it was a delight to see it again.
ReplyDeleteMore from the last half of this issue up next!
ReplyDeleteGreat stuff! I've picked up a few Jack and Jill issues over the years, but haven't seen this one. I love Halloween issues. But I can't believe you didn't post the best part of this issue: "My Father Fixes Linotype Machines". Kids love the fascinating world of Linotype maintenance!
ReplyDeleteman! so much cuteness!! i really love that winking moon in the Halloween Night song! and all the costumed kids below. and that Perky Puppet thing!
ReplyDeletebut on the Puzzle Page the "Neat Trick" is kinda weird. i've never pronounce women "wimmen" like they are implying if you were to pronounce "ghoti" "fish" (read it cause i know what i just said sounds crazy).
the whole thing is really neat though! thanks!
ok now i'm using my thinkin brain and realized that i was just saying the singular in my head and not the plural. boy am i slow! fish!
ReplyDeleteIt appears to be a great kid's magazine. The sixth illustration is just fantastic, surprisingly weird compared to the rest.
ReplyDeletethanks for the comments, we're having scanner issues today so the part two post might not happen for a few days, sorry! Hang in there, and keep yer thinking caps on, we'll be back after we exit technical difficulties city! Does anyone's father fix scanners?
ReplyDeleteMan, I love that curvy cat at the top of the Perky Puppet page. I was just hoping there could be some Halloween here in April. So far it's just been Easter after Easter--four days of Catholic holiday followed by four days of Orthodox holiday one week later: the church bells never stop! This is a great diversion.
ReplyDeletewe're just warming up for Walpurgis Night :)
ReplyDeleteThat's right! And Karswell Day!
