I promised more monster iron-ons, and here ya go! And just like in our last post, this ad is also from an old mid 70's issue of Charlton's Fightin' Marines series (thank you Newcastle Comic's dollar box!) This time around we have some frighteningly familiar mugs like Karloff's mummy and Frankenstein monster, Lon Chaney Jr.'s wolf man, EC's Old Witch gets herself a Medusa make-over, and a couple of Bernie Wrightson swipes to boot! Two others almost seem to be precode Rudy Palais illustrations, the demons on the cliff edge have that drippy distorted look of his style, and maybe the lumbering green thing with the bone in its hand (see also the bone between its legs?!) The ad says these are "super-gory" so I guess they mean the eye getting yanked out-- oh, how my stout heart weakens! Just iron them to any shirt and (heh heh)... ?!! Love this shit.
Other than the artistic lifting, there is nothing anybody can say bad about this, except that we don't have these in our hands right now!
ReplyDeleteIt's sad about how far gone the days of personalization in clothes are. Sure, nobody wants anything bedazzled, but you could make something relatively personalized in the 70s.
What!? I want everything bedazzled!!
ReplyDeleteSome of these are really very Eerie Pubs. The eyeball and especially the railroad spike picture reek of one of Myron Fass' gored-up swipes (though I guess that's a Wrightson swipe, huh?). Love to see that bat-eared Wolf Man in person. What's going on in scan number five? Looks like a couple of little imps are riding around on a bloody leaf. Spooky!
ReplyDelete@Cavin: I think it's a human heart.
ReplyDeleteThey are the Evil Cholesterol demons.

ReplyDeleteHe's definitely got a couple of bones to pick with you!
