Every once in a while, a fashion trend comes along that is most certainly ahead of its time. Availability Shirts, available from Sunset House in 1969 apparently didn't hang around long, they absolutely weren't around when I became an awkward teenager a decade later and could've definitely used the easy advantage of getting a girl's phone number without actually having to talk to her face to face first! Man, to think how different my life could've been with this groovy guaranteed date-getter of telegraphed info... if only... if... only...
What sort of message does "available" and a phone number send? If you are a plumber advertising a service it means you're inviting someone to call you when they need their pipes cleaned out, but if you're a girl it means "I will take anyone's phone call! I will talk to all the creeps and rapists who call me!" I think it also means something that this "fad" apparently did not catch on.
ReplyDeleteDo you think I could get one to attract a handsome plastic blow up bodyguard?
ReplyDeleteYour comment is just a load of hot air. Which, come to think of it, would probably attract a blow-up man!
ReplyDeleteGreat, we don't have enough street harassment as is, now an excuse: I wasn't staring at your breast, I was just memorizing your phone number!
ReplyDeleteI am quite a blow hard so that just might work!
ReplyDeleteSeems like anonymous gift sweaters would be all the rage.
ReplyDeleteI guess privacy concerns or obscene phone calls were not on the minds of the designers of this product. This product could make a comeback today though nowadays it would have a 2D barcode printed on it instead of a phone number.
ReplyDeleteI think people should just cut to the chase and wear sweaters with a nude picture of themselves, front and back, from both angles. Game changer.
ReplyDeleteI don't know, man. I been calling that number all afternoon, and while the girl looks pretty cute, she sounds like an operator on her answering machine.
ReplyDeleteNo shit? I thought all 555 numbers were legit.
ReplyDeletePretty sure they're all owned by professional movie and television stars.
ReplyDeletei wonder if i could get them to make me an Availability Cloak instead
ReplyDeleteYour sea gem pet just whispered "no"
