Pickup

Mini-Monday returns to AEET with a tiny comic strip that I found in a Dell paperback from 1962 (and scanned at 400%) called "Nervous in the Service"; edited by Bill Yates. The book itself is a collection of "America's leading jokesters taking a look at our servicemen on land, on the sea, in the air, and far out in space", and this cute martian maiden strip illustrated by O'Brien --simply titled "Pickup" --is definitely the highlight of the collection.

  1. Well, the joke is quite predictable, but I guess servicemen were glad for everything supposed to make them laugh in 1962.
Speaking of sci-fi jokes, a friend of mine has a question for you.
    "Dear Mr. Karswell:
You always ask us to prove we are not robots. How do I know YOU are not?
    Magnus, the robot fighter"
    Terrible, huh?

  8. Well if that person really had their way it would also be Small-fry Saturday. But I'm sure you would prefer Widdle Wednesday

  13. Now here is the question concerning the comic-Is the guy terrified because the thing means him harm, or is he terrified because the thing wants to do the nasty with him. Either way the guy is in for it (and you thought online dating had its risks).
One parting shot- One thing about robots, the only viruses they have to worry about can be removed via Dr. Solomon software.
