A casual, crafty remark on a post earlier this month has launched AEET into a new ongoing weekly feature we now call MINI-MONDAY. Basically this is when I take something totally teeny weeny from my collection and blow it up BIG; extra enlarged scans so you can really see the fun detail! So far this month we saw a silly mummy comic, as well as some old black and white comic book ads (check the archive if you missed 'em), now today I have a sensational Sunfrost Therm-O-Ware booklet from either the 50's or 60's. The booklet is very small and features an abundance of great design, color, typography, and oh those wonderful illustrations-- thus, making it a no-brainer for the super scan treatment! And as much as the booklet itself, I LOVE this Sunfrost Therm-O-Ware stuff, it really takes me back to my childhood, as most things presented here at AEET tend to do! The style, the textures, and even the way drinks tasted in the cups-- I think it's time to make another trip over to ebay ;)
oh my god i love this!!!!!!!! i love the hot and cold women and the little teeny outline people all around (esp the "Excellent for picnics!" lady who looks like she's making off with the food!) and the woman knitting at the end! man!
ReplyDeleteand god i'd love to find some of these cups and bowls too!
thanks for posting this!!!!!
and btw - that was no casual comment. the exclamation points are there for a reason (!!!!!)!
What about the "For those long drinks" girl? She's on the phone, surrounded by records, and drinking from a Sunfrost cup!
ReplyDeletelook at my wall
ReplyDeleteIts amazing that artwork back then could be reduced to such a small size, yet not lose its detail and not turn into a muddy mess, and they did all this in the pre desktop/scanner/photoshop days!
ReplyDeleteI for one am glad you are posting these mini masterpieces that would otherwise go unnoticed and ignored. I doubt I could scan images like these and make them look as good as yours.
You always have a treat in store for us whatever you post, horror, humor, advertising, whatever.
As always, Thank You Karswell!
I was going to point out the Long Drinks girl! I kind of like that tumbler on her page, too--it looks so much like a half-liter of fresh Czech pilsner, beading with moisture, peppery with a yeastiness that evaporates into slightly bitter dryness faster than I can chug it. Or maybe I'm just thirsty.
ReplyDeleteI like the set of eight tumblers in assorted colors. That caddy would look so excellent in my kitchen (and not be nearly as breakable as the crap that is actually in there right now). I think I might head over to eBay too.
Man, that's good stuff. Great illustrations. And I love the products.
ReplyDeleteHey, glad to hear there's more Sunfrost fans out there, it certainly is the coolest, (or is it the hottest?) dishware ever invented.
ReplyDeleteWeird... I can't believe no one said anything about the possible use as a "lingerie container" though! That instantly makes it the hottest.
that's a great idea! i could take one of those fluffy, see thru nighties and cram it into a Sunfrost mug and then pull it out at an opportune moment! someone's gotta be impressed by that!
ReplyDeleteYes, impressed!
DeleteYou had me at "fluffy".
