We interrupt our AEET "Dear Valentine" two-part post for a quick word from Count Dracula and the Wolf Man... sort of. Produced in the 60's by American Telecard, Inc. (Columbia) as a Buzza Cardozo "record card" (in conjunction with Universal Pictures Co., Inc), there were apparently 5 of these miniature monster cards in all (Happy Birthday, Wish You Were Here, etc...), that folded open as any regular greeting card, but inside revealed a brightly colored record to be played on your turntable at 33 1/3 RPMs. Our card in particular contains a Valentine love theme featuring music, sound effects and the unmistakable voice talents of legendary Mel Blanc and Lennie Weinrib. Record Cards were the newest and funniest way to express your feelings to the one you love... *scraaaaaatch!* grrrrrr... I had a youtube link saved to add to this post from someone who transferred the audio already for us, but apparently it's been removed-- sorry! Anyway, you can still enjoy the images, and if interested, google keywords "Buzzo Cardozo Monster Card" to see some of the others.
that looks really cool!
ReplyDeleteIt's really funny too... unfortunate about you tube clip missing :(
ReplyDeleteIf anyone finds another audio link online anywhere please add it to the comments here!
Pet peeve of mine -- hey, artist, do some photo research, OK, guitars don't look like that, nor do they break the traditional bounds of space/time with a neck that's partway into the 4th dimension.
ReplyDeleteI love the wolfman. He looks a bit too gorilla-ish, but he also really seems to be wishing for either a kiss or that this display will fool his victim long enough for him to get close!
A vampire playing guitar and Brian STILL complains! har! Indeed, the crooning werewolf does not even remotely look like the way real crooning werewolves look.
ReplyDeleteWhile we're at it, the roots on the roses are incorrectly researched / illustrated as well :P
i like how it kinda makes dracula look like he's playing a small cello. or a regular sized cello and he's really huge.
