Super Horror Mazes
While wandering around in a haunted maze last night at my son's cub scout Halloween party, I was reminded of the fun series of maze books by Vladimir Koziakin from my own childhood. Super Horror Mazes (Tempo Books, 1980) fits in perfectly with our theme this month, full of monsters, screaming women, and devil worship. As a kid, I remember thinking the artwork here was a bit flimsy, but looking at it now it almost seems to possess a wild, punkish underground illustrative zine vibe that certainly continues to prove influential, even on today's alternative / indie art scene. If you're a fan of solving mazes, enjoy this small sampling of highlights from within...
You know, with the proper bright color job (I'm thinking florescent, rainbow mazes), these would all make really cool seventies psychedelic posters, too. Especially the first and last ones here. Love to see band flyers made out of these.

ReplyDeleteApparently Vlad put out quite a few of these books through Tempo, inside cover lists over a dozen different ones including Haunted Mazes, Movie Monsters, Mystery Mazes, Sci-Fi, Sharks etc...
There's some interesting choices in the art here.

3) What DID happen to Don and Mary? Did they love too much? Is that a lesson for the rest of us?
