Diamond Foods have been around for 100 years, delivering delicious packaged nuts, chips, popcorn, etc. In a series of important, ongoing firsts, they were the first nut producer to launch a national advertising campaign in 1919, as well as being the first nutters to advertise on TV in 1950. Still going strong today (I especially love their line of Emerald snacks), here's a magical recipe booklet produced by their super fun, super talented 1950's art department!
Every time I see this rosy-cheeked illustration style I think it looks like a family of clowns, or maybe robots or toys, are pretending to be real families. Sort of a Santa's workshop version of the Sims, I guess. It adds a creepy veneer that just makes the whole experience even better.
ReplyDeletePS, I had no idea that I would ever think walnut portraits were so dynamic, but here you go. These people can really draw walnuts!
I know exactly what you mean! This art style sends me right to the moon-- a moon ruled by robot girls!
ReplyDeleteDid you know that Sunmaid Raisins has downloadable PDFs of all their recipe booklets from 1915-2007 complete with artwork? They are here:

They do include 1950s-1960s, which you seem to prefer.
Nice! Thanks for the link, KL!
