So what's to do in Denver? If you were alive in the early 60's there was plenty! Take in some gorgeous gams at one of many girlesque shows around town, join in on the exciting new dance craze "The Twist!" at the Peppermint Cave, visit Santa's Workshop at the foot of Pike's Peak, marvel at the latest George Pal classic at the million dollar Cooper Cinerama, barf your guts out on a thrill ride at Lakeside Amusement Park, steaks + polynesian fun, etc... yes, do more in Denver (with the help of time machine technology!)
Forgot to mention, all of these fab ads came from the August 1962 issue of Hotel Greeter's Guide and Denver Daily Doings, a very handy booklet for out of towners on where to go, what to see, and how to get there...
ReplyDeleteI can never get enough of pen and ink show girls! Great illustrations!
ReplyDeleteShowgirls presented in any medium is tough to beat, Amber! ;)
ReplyDeleteI'm with Amber. Plus, I love pirate-themed seafood restaurants almost as much I love voodoo themed lounges. Man I would misuse a time machine. Everybody else would be saving the Challenger or assassinating Hitler, but I'd be digging on beat riffs open mike night at some big town jazz place or checking out the craze at the local Playboy Club.
ReplyDeleteI also love the word "girlesque"--it reminds me of watching Doll Face recently, where it was always referred to as "burley-cue." Was that some kind of Hays Code thing?
Once again more Colorado! Most of these places are sadly gone. The Olin Hotel is an old folks place, no more twisting! Lakeside is almost the same as it was then, and is a true treasure! Richard Crwother designed the art deco at Lakeside and he designed that Cooper Cinerama (sadly gone now). Cool, stuff, thanks!
ReplyDeleteNew blog in 2012: The Misuse of Time Machines! COMING SOON!
