Whatever it's doing in your part of the world, my sector has only just now gotten beyond the cold, wet, and dreary phase of fake spring (finally), and now the sun is out, it's hot, it's bright, and-- it's BUGGY! So as a helpful service announcement, here are a variety of ways to fight back against the icky creepy crawlies, thanks to two old 1950's pamphlets from REAL-KILL bug killer. (FYI: Even if you have a fearful phobia of bugs, there are some fun drawings on some of the pages below.)
I'll bet there weren't any warnings about toxins on the packaging, maybe just wear high heels and dress while applying, lol! I like the bugs leaving the house with their hobo sacks.
ReplyDeleteWho knew the face of Death was so Friendly ?
ReplyDeleteEverything is cuter with a hobo sack, Jil! Even the Face of Death...
ReplyDeleteI really wish the powerful directed lighting on the lady's face in the cover illustration was coming from the bottom instead of stage right. With her huge eyes--and maybe a couple of forehead sweats--she'd make a kickass EC splash.
ReplyDeleteBut my favorite thing here is that awesome rainbow pastel star-burst illustration at the end. It looks like a vintage Milton Bradley board game (and could be, with very few artistic changes. And a rule book). I was going to snark about the lady spraying poison right onto the dog's food, but then I see she's pumping it into the family larder as well. This really is an EC story, isn't it?
>This really is an EC story, isn't it?
ReplyDeleteThey don't call it REAL-KILL for noting! The color illutration at the end is the full cover wrap of one of the booklets-- it's a montage of a bug's worst nightmare!
Man, I feel itchy all over. I love that last rainbow page. Just to be safe, spray every goddamn thing, including towels, tools, food - get on your hands and knees if you have to, but spray everything.
ReplyDeleteMr. Cavin is right. I see this on illustrated by Johnny Craig.
Why, it just so happens that I do have a fearful phobia of bugs! So glad to know I'm not the only one!
ReplyDeleteI was never too keen on using either insecticides or weed killer, especially after I saw what happened when the maintenance crew sprayed pesticides in all the trees and the edges of the grass in the faculty housing development where my family and I lived when I was ten years old. It wasn't just the pest bugs that died, of course. There were helpful insects such as ladybugs and praying mantises, and there was even a bird. It was horrifying.
I have problems with flies getting in to my house when spring comes. I use fly paper. Occasionally something that I wasn't trying to catch such as a spider gets caught on it, but for the most part it's just the flies and no-see-ums and there isn't the risk for me and my pets inhaling the noxious chemicals from sprays.
bugs are my friends...
