The nicely illustrated cars in our last post reminded me of the super cool stylized automobiles in this booklet given to beginner drivers in Michigan in 1958. Nearly 50 pages long, it's full of madcap people driving funny faced machines ranging from super cartoony to superbly realistic. A guidebook obviously designed to demonstrate that scary driving can also be fun for newbies (as long as you follow a few obvious rules of practical safety), here are some highlights:
I love that cartoony style you mention, makes boring reading like driving for beginners much more interesting! Who is the artist do you know?

These days what every driver must know is that every other driver on the road is an apathetic douchebag who is probably driving and texting, or putting on makeup, or worse.

ReplyDeleteI wish. Whoever they are/were they had a great handle on all types of illustration styles!

Keep it tuned right here Jeff, there's more fun 50's safety coolness coming up next!
KW: It's UMU... I was just trying to avoid the ebay route (plus instead of getting the one we need when buying packs, we still wind up getting some of the "wanteds" and "most wanteds" so it's all good.) Trying to teach my 7 year year old about collecting-- fun!
